A Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee, Guru Sutapa Talukdar is a celebrated name in the field of Indian classical dance, Odissi. She is known for her unique choreographies which are a blend of the experimental and the pure form. She has internationally known dance dramas and dance ballets collaborating with the most revered names in music, vocals, script and light. She has dedicated her life to spreading the seeds of love for Odissi among the young generation, and across the world. She is an avid social reformist, changing lives of underprivileged children through dance. Her dance academy, Gurukul, trains and nurtures talents and turns them into skilled, renowned professionals.
Established on 4th January, 1987 by Guru Sutapa Talukdar, Gurukul is a centre for excellence for Odissi. The academy is known for its ability to create dancers who are aesthetically strong, elegant in their presentation and perfect in their performance. Gurukul students have been shining across national and international platforms ever since the inception of the academy.
